The Defibtech Lifeline VIEW stands out in the industry because of its full-color interactive display, but like all AEDs, it requires a functioning battery to stay Rescue Ready. If you are a facility manager or safety coordinator, knowing how to check the battery life on your Lifeline VIEW, ECG, or PRO model is a critical monthly compliance task.

Here is exactly how to verify your battery status and what to do if it is time for a replacement.

1. The 90-Second Visual Check

You don’t need to turn the unit on to verify it is ready to save a life. Look at the Active Status Indicator on the front of the AED, located right next to the On/Off button.

  • Flashing Green: The unit has passed its automatic daily self-tests and the battery has sufficient charge.

  • Flashing Red (or No Light): The unit needs immediate service. It has failed a self-test or the battery is completely dead.

2. Checking the Exact Battery Percentage

Because the Lifeline VIEW features a digital screen, you can check the exact battery status without guessing:

  1. Press the center “Soft-Key” button below the screen to wake up the display.

  2. Navigate to the AED Status screen.

  3. The screen will display the battery’s remaining capacity and the exact expiration date.

3. Understanding the “Chirp”

If your Lifeline VIEW is emitting an audible “chirping” or beeping sound and flashing a red light, it is actively alerting you to an error condition. In most cases, this means the battery has reached the end of its 4-year standby life and can no longer guarantee enough power to deliver a life-saving shock.

When Is It Time to Replace?

The Lifeline VIEW uses a specific 4-year lithium battery pack. If your unit is chirping, showing a red light, or the digital screen warns you that the battery is low, it must be replaced immediately to avoid massive liability risks.
