🛑 Quick Answer & Replacements: You cannot mix and match Defibtech pediatric pads.

  • If you have the yellow Lifeline or Lifeline AUTO (no screen), you need the DDP-200P Pediatric Pads.

  • If you have the Lifeline VIEW, PRO, or ECG (has a video screen), you need the DDP-2002 Pediatric Pads. Both models have a strict 2-year expiration date. Check your AED model before ordering to ensure compliance.

When it comes to purchasing replacement pediatric pads for a Defibtech Automated External Defibrillator (AED), facility managers and school nurses run into the exact same problem: the part numbers are incredibly similar, and the giant medical supply catalogs do a terrible job of explaining the difference.

If you order the wrong pediatric pads for your Defibtech unit, the connection plug will not fit into your machine. Worse, if you don’t discover this until a sudden cardiac arrest emergency occurs, your facility could face severe legal liability.

Here is exactly how to identify your Defibtech AED model and ensure you are buying the correct pediatric pads to keep your facility OSHA-compliant and Rescue Ready.

1. The Standard Defibtech Lifeline (No Screen)

The original Defibtech Lifeline and the Lifeline AUTO (officially known as the DDU-100 series) are characterized by their bright yellow color, black rubberized edges, and a simple two-button interface (or one button for the AUTO). They do not have a video screen.

For these AEDs, you must use the Defibtech DDP-200P Pediatric Pads.

Why the DDP-200P is unique:

When you use a standard Lifeline AED on an adult, the machine delivers a massive 150 Joules of electrical energy to restart the heart. That amount of energy is far too high for a child’s smaller heart and can cause severe tissue damage.

The standard Lifeline AED cannot change its internal energy output. Instead, the DDP-200P pediatric pads feature a built-in energy attenuator physically engineered into the pad’s cable. When you plug the DDP-200P into the machine, this attenuator acts like a resistor, stepping the electrical shock down from 150 Joules to a safe, child-appropriate 50 Joules.

2. The Defibtech Lifeline VIEW (With Video Screen)

The Defibtech Lifeline VIEW, PRO, and ECG models (the DDU-2000 series) are instantly recognizable because they feature a full-color interactive video screen on the front of the unit that plays video instructions during a rescue.

For these AEDs, you must use the Defibtech DDP-2002 Pediatric Pads.

How the VIEW handles pediatric energy differently:

Unlike the older Lifeline models, the Lifeline VIEW has an advanced internal computer. When you plug the DDP-2002 pads into a VIEW machine, the AED’s computer instantly recognizes that child pads are attached. The machine internally reduces its shock output to 50 Joules. Because the AED handles the step-down internally, the DDP-2002 pads do not need the bulky in-line attenuator on their cable.

This is why the connectors are different and the pads are not interchangeable.

3. The “Under 8 / Under 55” Rule

Regardless of which Defibtech AED you own, the rules for when to use pediatric pads are the same across the entire medical industry.

Pediatric pads should only be used on patients who are:

  • Under 8 years old

  • Weigh less than 55 lbs (25 kg)

If a child is over 8 years old, or weighs more than 55 pounds, they possess enough body mass to safely receive a standard adult shock. In those cases, you should use standard adult pads.

Keep Your AED Compliant

Defibtech pediatric pads (both the DDP-200P and the DDP-2002) utilize a water-based hydrogel to adhere to the patient’s chest. This gel dries out over time, which means both models have a strict 2-year expiration date.

If your facility is currently using the standard yellow Lifeline or Lifeline AUTO, check the date printed on your pediatric pads today. If they are expired, order fresh replacements directly from our secure inventory:
