An AED or automated external defibrillator is an electronic device that is portable and used to detect irregularities in the rhythm of the heart. These irregular rhythms can be brought back to the normal rhythm by using the defibrillator. The defibrillator sets the abnormal rhythm right by applying an electrical current.

AEDs or defibrillators are used in hospitals as well as in homes. They are demonstrated in first aid and CPR classes (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). Paramedical staff, doctors, nurses, and even laypeople can use the defibrillator to save a life.

Defibrillators for home use can be brought without a prescription. AEDs are especially useful if a person is experiencing an abnormal form of heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation. The AED is then connected to the chest and if that particular heart rhythm can be treated electrically, the defibrillator sends an electrical current automatically to the heart. This electrical shock can set the rhythms into a normal pattern again. This procedure can be potentially lifesaving.

In the United States, the Phillips HeartStart is the only automated defibrillator that can be used at home without a prescription. Defibrillators come with defibrillator pads which are what transmit the electric shock to the heart muscles. So it is essential that the defibrillator pads are maintained well and replaced if necessary. It is also important to know the correct placement of the pads. Phillips defibrillator pads such as the HeartStart defibrillator pads and the Phillips HeartStart FRX pads are trusted by professionals the world over.

Before using an AED, ensure that there is are no wet areas near the person. The person would have to be moved to a fully dry area before the defibrillator is used. The AED, when turned on, will produce voice prompts as well as screen prompts to help you along the steps. Once the person’s chest is exposed and dry, only then should the pads be applied. If the person has any medical devices implanted such as pacemakers, then the pads must be placed at least 1 inch away. If the person has any piercings too (on nipples, for example) the pads must be placed at least 1 inch away to ensure smooth flow of electricity.

Phillips defibrillator pads have an expiry date marked. This date should be noted and the pads must be replaced in time. It is also important to make sure that the defibrillator batteries are not expired. The AED must be checked at least once a month to make sure that it is in working condition and that all cables and pads are clean.

It should also be remembered that the defibrillator be placed in such a way that it is easy to gain access to in the event of an emergency. It should be kept in a clean and dry place, and care should be taken that water does not fall on it. Also, the pads have to be kept clean at all times. The batteries on the defibrillator too have to be checked for expiry dates.

Philips FR2 M3863A AED Battery

In the U.S alone, every year almost 34,000 cases of SCAs (Sudden Cardiac Arrest), caused mostly due to cardiac arrhythmias, occur, and the survival rate is less than 5%. This is mainly due to the fact that defibrillation or electric shock which is immediately required for the treatment is delayed because of the time it takes to reach the healthcare service. With this in mind, AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator) were created to reduce mortality due to SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest).

The HeartStart FR2 Series was specifically designed for use by a first responder to aid in providing the initial electric shock which is required for potential survival until the patient is transferred to a medical facility. The device is equipped with a replacement battery which is U.S FDA (United States Food and Drug Administration) approved. The lithium manganese M3863A Philips Battery life is capable of up to 300 shocks or 12 hours of patient monitoring. The minimum stand-by life is 4 years and is extended to 5 years if installed with the indicated Install-by-Update.

The components inside the Philips FR2 battery are carefully arranged in an ultrasonically welded case that keeps it protected against impact. It comes with a 4 years manufacturer’s warranty. The shelf-life of the battery is up to 5 years so it is a good idea to keep a spare battery handy. The battery is non-rechargeable and current status or change of battery is easily indicated by the Status Indicator on the upper right corner of the device and an audible alarm.

The device will automatically come to life once the battery is inserted and perform a detailed self-test known as Battery Insertion Test (BIT) to ensure the proper operation of the circuitry and calibration of the AED. The functioning of the device must be looked into properly to ensure proper use.

Why Should You Inspect Your Philips HeartStart AED on A Monthly Basis

August 6, 2014

Philips HeartStart FRX Training Pads

The Philips HeartStart AED Defibrillator makes your home and family safe. Cardiac arrests are becoming a common cause of death; having a safe backup at home in times of an emergency is a wise option. Until medical help arrives, you know you have help at home already. However, it is extremely important to check your Philips HeartStart Defibrillator and HeartStart Ref m5070a battery and M5071A pads for optimal functioning; you don’t want to be faced with a malfunctioning device in case of an emergency. By inspecting the HeartStart Ref M5070A or M5071A  pads and the device monthly, you will make sure that:

• The device is not damaged

• It is working properly and is in good condition

• Its parts don’t need to be replaced

Stay Aware If the Equipment Needs To Be Replaced

Other than the above reasons, the HeartStart Ref M5070A have a useful life of 4 years in standby mode. It is wise to note down its expiration date so that you remember when the batteries or other parts need replacement. If the device has remained in use, remember that the battery life will be less than four years. The Philips M5071A defibrillator pads also have an expiration date of usually two years. A monthly inspection should ensure that you are aware the device is running properly and if the expiration date of the equipment is near.

Stay Aware If It Is Functioning Properly

Your Philips HeartStart Defibrillator also performs self-checks to ensure that it is running properly. If it finds that there is an error, you will hear a beeping sound and the button on the front of the device will start to flash. It is a good idea to store your device in an accessible location in order to be able to hear the warning sound.

The device comes with a maintenance booklet, which gives you tips on its maintenance and its use. It is recommended that you read it thoroughly before setting up your device. Don’t forget to change the Philips HeartStart battery or M5071A pads when they expire.

Philips M5071A Pros and Cons

July 12, 2014
Philips M3848A FR2 rechargeable defibrillator battery

Philips M5071A defibrillator pads are electric conductors that allow the defibrillating current to go into the heart attack patient’s body. They are also sensors and they pick up electric signals from the person’s heart so that they can be monitored and interpreted. These data are analyzed by either the machine or the person handling the defibrillator, and the electric shock given depends on the heart’s present electrical activity.

There are definite advantages to using Philips M5071A pads. Using these pads means that the operator doesn’t need to be in contact with the electrically conductive parts of the defibrillator while the current is flowing through. Another is that the sticky nature of the pads makes them less likely to fall out of place accidentally. These two things, hands-free operation and secureness, are the main advantages of Philips M5071A. They make it easier for untrained people to handle defibrillating equipment.

Aside from those benefits, Philips M5071A pads are easy to use and store. To use them, one only needs to open the foil packet, retrieve the cartridge with the two pads inside, and then slide them into a slot along the defibrillator. The cartridge is then opened and the pads are placed upon the person’s chest or back – the cartridge’s cover even contains a drawing to prompt the user on what to do.

Perhaps the drawbacks to Philips M5071A are its relatively expensive cost and the added responsibility to the owners.  AED equipment and its accessories are usually pricey, but despite this, it’s an immensely valuable tool to have to save lives. Medical help can take several minutes to arrive and the first few minutes during SCA could mean the difference between life and death. The lay responder or homeowner can take a training course or train him/herself on how to use the device to take control of the situation in the fastest time possible, and the value of a saved life far outweighs the monetary expenses.

The Power and Efficiency of a Philips M5070A Battery

July 8, 2014

PFE7024D Premium Surface Mounted Alarm AED Cabinet

The human heart is a resilient organ, but occasionally it fails to function properly. When it fibrillates, or beats in a chaotic and inefficient manner, a defibrillator must be used to reset the heart’s electrical activity. Otherwise, the person might die.

For this purpose, automated external defibrillators have been placed in various locations to enable anyone to assist a person suffering from sudden cardiac arrest. These devices need to be powered by high-performance batteries in order to maximize their potential. One such device is the Philips M5070A battery, used in AEDs that are a part of the Philips HeartStart FRx series.

Basically, all batteries have an anode and a cathode, with each having a different conductive material than the other. During operation, redox reactions cause electrons to flow in an electric circuit, powering up the device to which the battery is attached.

Different materials change the properties of the battery. The Philips M5070A battery contains a lithium anode and a manganese dioxide cathode. These materials are relatively inexpensive, yet they provide suitable levels of electric current and are extremely long-lasting. In addition, batteries that employ these materials are capable of emitting high pulse currents. As such, they are perfect for use in AEDs.

The Philips HeartStart M5070A battery is capable of powering around 200 shocks in its lifetime. Placed in a compatible AED, it can power the device in standby mode for about four years. It can withstand moderate changes in temperature and can be stored for up to five years.

All in all, the Philips M5070A battery is a powerful and efficient model. Because of their efficiency, the desire of some manufacturers to make a quick profit motivated them to create some knockoffs of this model. One must remember to always use genuine batteries like the Philips M5070A battery for powering an AED. The use of such devices might damage the AED and even put people’s lives at risk.

Strong and Reliable: The Philips M5070A Battery

July 8, 2014

In this world of uncertainty, anything can happen. One minute someone might be fine, and then all of a sudden, disaster strikes. One of the most dangerous medical emergencies that can happen to anyone is sudden cardiac arrest, in which the heart suddenly stops beating. To prepare for this threat, households and institutions have installed automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, designed to deliver a shock to the affected heart and hopefully restore its normal rhythm.

When someone offers you a battery for your AED, check first if it is an authentic battery. In particular, if you own a Philips HeartStart OnSite or Philips HeartStart FRx AED, then you should check that you are using a genuine Philips M5070A battery.

Philips M5070A battery is a non-rechargeable lithium manganese dioxide battery. This composition gives it its high charge capacity and high durability. With a measured voltage of 9.0 V and a measured current of 4.2 A, It outperforms other rechargeable. Since a Philips M5070A battery is not rechargeable, there is also no need to handle recharging cycles and the battery is always ready to power AEDs in times of crisis.

Unlike other inferior models, a M5070A battery can carry an electrical charge for a long period of time. It can power a compatible AED unit in standby mode for around four years and deliver approximately 200 electric shocks before it runs out of power. If stored, the battery remains usable for up to five years after it was manufactured.

Remember, AEDs must rely on a stable and resilient power supply in order to function properly. To ensure optimal performance, AEDs should be equipped with genuine battery models as specified by their manufacturer.

In addition, having spare batteries around will ensure that defibrillation can still be performed even when the installed battery suddenly malfunctions.

Don’t take chances. Order genuine Philips M5070A batteries and protect the lives of the people you care about.

Some Do’s and Don’ts in Buying, Storing, and Using Philips M5070A Batteries

July 6, 2014

If you own a Philips HeartStart FRx series defibrillator, then this article might just save your life.

Automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, are used by both health workers and ordinary civilians, to thwart one of the most perverse killers in society: sudden cardiac arrest. This silent assailant stops the regular electrical impulses of the heart and claims the lives of thousands worldwide. To protect their loved ones, people have used AEDs to restart the victim’s heart and help them survive.

To use an AED properly, it should be connected to a power supply, which in your case, is a Philips M5070A battery. In addition, note that the characters M5070A only refers to the product code, but that does not undermine the relevance of such a product in saving lives.

To ensure that the people you love are always protected, consider the following do’s and don’ts:

  •  Do buy genuine Philips M5070A batteries from legitimate distributors.
  •  Do check your current batteries for authenticity.
  •  Do store your batteries in a cool and dry location with the original protective packaging intact.
  •  Do ensure that your batteries are still in excellent condition before installation by checking for any bumps, dents, holes, or other signs of degradation.
  •  Do take great care in installing your Philips HeartStart M5070A battery.
  •  Don’t attempt to save some money by buying inferior batteries for your AED, as other batteries have not been tested for compatibility with your AED and might cause your device to fail during an emergency.
  •  Don’t expose your batteries to extreme temperatures or mechanical shocks, which can damage your Philips M5070A batteries.
  •  Don’t trigger the self-check function of your AED more often than required as written in your manual, as the process consumes some of the charge stored in your battery.

Remember that while Philips M5070A batteries might be superior in terms of power and endurance, they are not indestructible. If you take good care of these devices, they will take good care of you and your loved ones when an emergency does happen.

Philips HeartStart M5070A: The Replacement Battery

June 21, 2014

Philips M3538A HeartStart MRX defibrillator battery

First introduced and demonstrated by two phycologists from the University of Geneva in Switzerland: Jean-Louis Prévost and Frédéric Batelli, defibrillators were first conceptualized for use in dogs.  When Dr. Albert Hyman—a heart specialist at the Beth Davis Hospital of New York City—and C. Henry Hyman—an electrical engineer—looked for an alternative way to inject powerful drugs directly to the human heart, they came up with an invention that used electrical shocks instead of injections and called it “Hyman Otor”.  Unfortunately, there was no recorded success for the Hyman Otor or if it was ever released in the market.

The first early successful defibrillator used on humans, however, was developed by Claude Beck in 1947 and it has evolved since then.  From the large, bulky equipment, there are now several different types of defibrillators—some of which can be used by anyone who is knowledgeable with them and not just medical and emergency personnel.

The portable defibrillators pioneered in the early 1960s by Prof. Frank Pantridge was a major breakthrough for the use of defibrillators outside of hospitals.  Today, defibrillators are among the many important tools carried by ambulances and emergency first aid responders.  They are the only proven way to resuscitate a person who has suffered cardiac arrest.

As it is an equipment that relies on electricity, it—naturally—needs to have something to power it up, and these sources of energy are not unlimited and need to be replaced once depleted.  For the Philips HeartStart OnSite, FRX, and Home AED models, there is the Philips HeartStart M5070A replacement battery.  It is a Lithium Ion, 4-year replacement battery that does not require charging and is capable of providing 300 uses.

Unlike other replacement batteries, the Philips HeartStart M5070A is easy to install and provides an install-by date printed on the back of the battery to ensure its usefulness and authenticity.  It can last for up to four (4) years with the defibrillator in stand-by mode.

As with all replacement batteries, once the HeartStart M5070A’s power has been depleted, it can easily be disposed of in a safe and environmental-friendly manner.

Philips HeartStart Home Defibrillator

Philips HeartStart Home Defibrillator

Cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) are very common cardiovascular diseases which are the leading contributor to human mortality rate around the world. These conditions can attack anyone of any age, anytime, anywhere. That is why the Philips HeartStart HS1 First Aid Defibrillator was created.

Philips has come up with a user-friendly automated external defibrillator (AED) that allows patients to have a first aid treatment at home where most cardiac emergencies happen. This defibrillator is powered by a preinstalled long-life lithium battery and is equipped with a cartridge with one set of preinstalled HeartStart defibrillator Pads which are attached to the patient’s chest during use.

The Philips heartStart Home Defibrillator, like the name implies, prevents fibrillation which causes the heart muscle to generate abnormal contractions or causes the heart to stop contracting. By means of the HeartStart defibrillator Pads, the defibrillator conveys an electric impulse to the heart, restoring proper rhythm of cardiac muscle contractions. The defibrillator is equipped with a Patient Analysis System that evaluates the patient’s ECG and determines if the patient will need defibrillation. Once activated, the Philips heartStart home defibrillator will provide audio instructions to guide the responder on how to use it. It also displays visual instructions to demonstrate where the HeartStart defibrillator Pads should be attached on the patient.

The HS1 Defibrillator is incredibly simple to use that even small children can operate it and old people would not have trouble handling it during emergencies. All they have to remember is to Pull, Place, and Press. Pull the cartridge handle to initiate the audio coaching. Place the HeartStart defibrillator Pads on the patient’s bare chest while following the voice instructions. Press the shock button if the defibrillator decides that the patient needs a shock. It’s that simple.

Buyers may pick from two types of HeartStart defibrillator Pads Cartridges to accompany their HeartStart HS1 Defibrillator. The first one is the M5071A Adult SMART Pads Cartridge, specific for patients aged 8 years old and older or patients weighing 25 kg (55 lbs) and above. This unit includes a 137.1 cm (54 in) cable and delivers 150 joules of energy into a 50 ohm load. The second is the M5072A Infant/Child SMART Pads Cartridge, designed for patients under 8 years old or patients who weigh below 25 kg (55 lbs). However, the Infant/Child SMART Pads Cartridge should not be used without first consulting a physician. This cartridge includes a 101.6 cm (40 in) cable and delivers 50 joules of energy into a 50 ohm load. These cartridges are disposable and contain adhesive defibrillation HeartStart defibrillator Pads.

The HeartStart HS1 may also come with any of these two types of training pads cartridges. These HeartStart defibrillator Pads Cartridges, namely the M5073A (Adult) and the M5074A (Infant/Child), contain special pads which are designed for the training mode feature of the HS1 Defibrillator. These training pads cartridges disable the delivery of energy and allow the pads to be used safely during training exercises.

The Philips HeartStart Home Defibrillator is a survival kit providing effective, immediate post-cardiac arrest treatment that every heart patient should carry along wherever they go.

Battery For Philips HeartStart Defibrillator

Battery For Philips HeartStart Defibrillator
Irregularities and diseases associated with the heart are the leading cause of mortality worldwide. There are many types of cardiovascular diseases, including cardiac arrhythmia and cardiac arrest. These diseases commonly affect older people but may also occur in infants and children. Everyone knows that prevention is better than cure but nothing beats being ready for worst case scenarios. The HeartStart HS1 Defibrillator allows anyone to treat a cardiac arrhythmia or a cardiac arrest at the very moment it occurs.

The Philips HeartStart HS1 Defibrillator is an automated external defibrillator (AED) that comes with one pre-installed Battery for Philips Heartstart defibrillator, one integrated SMART pads cartridge with SMART pads, owner’s manual, quick reference guide, and quick set-up/maintenance guide with expiration date tags. The HeartStart HS1 may also be availed by selecting the Ready-Pack option RO1 which includes the defibrillator inside a carry case, one pre-installed HeartStart Battery, one set of preinstalled SMART pads in the SMART pads cartridge, one spare set of SMART pads inside the carry case, owner’s manual, quick reference guide, and quick set-up/maintenance guide with expiration date tags.

The HeartStart HS1 Defibrillator is a machine designed to deliver an electric shock to the heart muscle when the patient is undergoing a cardiac arrest. A person is undergoing a cardiac arrest when he is unresponsive when shaken and is not breathing normally. In this case, the heart is no longer pumping blood and without proper treatment, the patient will die. Having the HeartStart HS1 around would prevent this from happening.

The HS1 Defibrillator is very easy to use. Old people as well as young children could operate it. It guides users through audio coaching as well as visual instructions. Once the SMART pads are attached to the patient’s skin, the defibrillator begins analyzing the patient’s cardiac rhythm, making sure that he is undergoing a cardiac arrest or arrhythmia and needs immediate treatment by defibrillation with the HeartStart HS1.

The defibrillator is equipped with the M5070A defibrillator battery which is a 9V DC, 4.2 Ah, long-life disposable battery composed of lithium manganese di-oxide primary cells. It has a minimum of 200 shocks or an equivalent of 4 hrs of operating time. The HeartStart ref m5070a Battery is designed to last for 4 years in standby mode when stored in its specific standby temperature range, assuming the defibrillator is not used. The defibrillator will alert the user in the following ways if the battery power is at its minimum. First, the defibrillator will begin to chirp, then the green Ready indicator light would stop blinking, and finally, the blue i-button will start flashing. It is advised to keep a spare  Battery for Philips HeartStart defibrillator or have one ready when the pre-installed battery approaches years in standby state.

Replacing the M5070A defibrillator battery is simple. As soon as it is inserted into the defibrillator, the battery insertion self-test will automatically run, taking about a minute to complete. This test ensures that the defibrillator is ready for use. If it does not automatically run, there might be a problem with the installation and the battery should be reinserted.

The Philips HeartStart HS1 Defibrillator is a very significant piece of equipment, a life-saver that every household should have.

A Guide in Philips HeartStart AED Batteries

April 8, 2014

m5070a battery

An automated external defibrillator, or AED, is the best tool that you can have when cardiac arrest occurs to someone. These are the same equipment that emergency medical responders/technicians, or EMRs/EMTs, use in these situations.

Philips has created some of the top defibrillators for everyone. Philips HeartStart Defibrillators is the series of AEDs by the brand that provides efficient and effective life-saving tools. Some of the well-known AED models are the Philips HeartStart Onsite Defibrillator, Heartstart Home, FRx and FR2 to name a few. The brand and its products have also garnered multiple awards for their services, such as the “Cor VitaeAward” from the American Heart Association and “Best Innovations of 2003” from USA Weekend.

These products have been utilized by emergency responders and laypeople alike. But just as the equipment is used for life support, it also needs its reserve to serve its purpose.

Defibrillators need to have long-lasting lives. The usual Philips AED battery can last up to 4 years (5 years on shelf). But eventually, you will need to replace them. Here are some quality AED batteries and their replacements for your HeartStart defibrillator.

The Three Essential AED Batteries

Philips OnSite/FRx Replacement Battery: One particular feature of the Philips M5070A battery is that it does not need to be charged. ThisPhilips AED battery has a shelf life of 5 years, and 4 years once installed. This battery is also compatible with other models of Philips defibrillators.

Philips Fr2/Fr2+ Long-Life Replacement Battery: No one wishes to use AEDs. But you would want to have your AED usable once you need it. Here you have a Philips Heartstart AED battery that has almost the same life-span as its shelf life, which is around 5 years. This one is ideal for AEDs used for lessons and trainings because of its longevity.

Philips Fr2/Fr2 + Rechargeable Replacement Battery: This rechargeablePhilips AED battery is perfect for defibrillators that are frequently used. When the time comes, defibrillation can use up the AED’s energy. This rechargeable AED battery can be charged in just a matter of three hours.

Defibrillation usually requires at least 300 volts from AEDs for resuscitating. A primary Philips Heartstart AED battery uses lithium manganese dioxide, while secondary ones use lithium-ion. These give the AED batteries powerful electric shocks for resuscitating heart failures.

In the United States, there are 200,000 people who suffer from cardiac arrest each year. Organizations such as the American Heart Association have opted individuals to find courses on basic first aid. When someone you know gets a heart attack, you have to be ready. And when it happens, you cannot afford to lose any time. You’ll need the right skills and the right tools.

Most of the Philips HeartStart defibrillators are cost-effective for people with no background in first-aid. They provide manuals, training videos and guides for their products. And with the increasing number of cardiovascular problems in the country, keeping your AEDs in check can save lives. It is all about being prepared when disaster strikes.

Getting to Know the M3713A Pads

April 7, 2014

MM3713A Mrx Defibrillator pad

Philips M3713A pads are multi-function adhesive electrode pads that can be used with both the Automated External Defibrillators or AED and the Advance Life Support Defibrillators. Manual defibrillation using these pads is also possible. These pads are appropriate for children and adults that are more than 10 kilograms in weight when using manual defibrillators and patients that are more than 25 kilograms when used with an AED.

The M3713A Pads are designed for external application and are disposable. It has a cable length of around 48 inches and weighs 1.3 kilograms. These specifications make the product suitable for portable AEDs that are used in emergency medical response situations. These are compatible and can be readily used with the following Philips devices: M1722 A and B, M1723 A and B, M1724 A and B, M4735 A and B, M5500 B, M3860 A, M3861 A, M3840 A, M3841 A, M3535 A, M3536 A, E, S, and EM (Forerunner AED) 940010XX, 940020XX, 940030XX (Laerdal FR AED).

The M3713A is made of thin flexible conductors packed in protective polymer backing and hydro gel. This is sure to withstand the rigors of CPR even in emergency situations. The pads are also constructed to conform to the natural contours of the body to ensure uniform distribution of shock energy. This detail is important especially when using AED on site where other diagnostic devices may not be available immediately. It has a long shelf life of 24 months so these can be safely stored for use in unpredicted emergency response situations.

For advance life support defibrillation, the pads may be used for up to 48 hours before being disposed.

When used for manual defibrillation, the M3713A is optimized for properly trained medical responders. However, when using the AED, it is possible for laypersons to properly administer emergency resuscitation by following the simple instructions in the kit.

Philips M3713A and the wide range of Philips defibrillators are the obvious choice in reliable medical equipment requirement of medical and emergency response practitioners. It has a long history of producing a range of medical products and is one of the leading companies in terms of revenues, product range and innovation. To date, the Philips defibrillators that can be used with the M3716A pads have over 4.5 Billion service hours logged all over the world and has recorded over 200,000 defibrillators operating in medical facilities, workplaces, schools, public terminals and many neighborhoods.

The company has also been known to be the first to produce defibrillators that is cleared for over-the-counter selling. Thus, bringing much needed emergency response at the home front with the Philips Heart Start Home Defibrillator. This is an AED that is designed for use by any lay person who may not have professional training in medical care and emergency response.

This breakthrough brings the life-saving technology at the home front and has saved countless lives mainly due to the ability of responders to commence resuscitation immediately. Cardiac arrest is often associated with delayed intervention in arresting and correcting inconsistencies in heart pumping rhythm. Immediate response makes it possible for patients with heart condition achieve stability and allows time for transport to the proper medical facilities for further treatment.

Philips M5071A HeartStart Adult SMART Pads

April 1, 2014

m5071a Philips Heartstart AED Smart Pads

It used to be manual CPR or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation was the only solution for out of hospital Cardiac Arrest treatment. Now, there is the Automated External Defibrillator or AED to help emergency workers and first  responders in events where victims suffer sudden cardiac arrest. Portable variants are now also available, making this AED an integral tool in every emergency response unit.

The availability of the Philips M5071A pads make the device all the more useful in emergency situations. These pads are considered smart because it is able to sense if they have been removed from the cartridge and applied to the patient.

How do the M5071A Adult SMART Pads Work?

These pads, used in conjunction with the AED, which is a portable electronic device helps diagnose life threatening cardiac arrhythmias in a patient. This condition will lead to cardiac arrest if treatment is delayed. These electrode pads are applied over the chest of the patient and send signals to the AED to diagnose possible cardiac problems. The HS1 pads also facilitate defibrillation by delivering a therapeutic dose of electrical energy to the body. The process depolarizes part of the human heart and allows normal rhythm to be established. In many cases, early defibrillation prevents sudden deaths due to cardiac arrest. Emergency responders are then allowed to transport victims to facilities that offer appropriate medical care needed.

Who needs the M5071A Adult SMART Pads?

Any emergency or trauma situation often involves cases of cardiac arrest and heart failures. Thus, AEDs are integral tools for persons and units that respond to medical emergencies. Ambulance and medical response services often have AEDs at their disposal. Since there are different pads appropriate for different users, M5071A Adult Pads are kept at hand together with those that are designed for infants, children and persons with special condition. The M5071A Adult SMART Pads are designed for healthy adults or those that weigh more than 55 pounds. It delivers the right amount of shock energy at around 150 Joules.

Safety and health authorities also advocate for the placement of AEDs equipped with the different kinds of pads in public areas such as the subway, government centers, shopping areas and other public places where people tend to congregate. This practice has gained popularity and a number of AEDs can now be found in public areas.

It is also recommended for home use by patients with heart conditions. Because they are automated, AEDs can easily be used by laypersons untrained to respond to medical emergencies. This makes this appropriate for home use as an integral life saving device for those with heart ailments and similar medical condition.

Caring for your Smart Pad

It is useful to regularly check the expiration date on your M5071A Smart Pads to make sure that they are still useful in the event of an emergency. The cartridges have a life of two years and have to be replaced once this time frame has expired.

Batteries power the AEDs so it is also important to check the battery status regularly.

Why Choose the Heartstart Ref M5070A Battery?

March 18, 2014

m5070a Heartstart Battery

Having an AED or defibrillator is a great step to take to protect yourself, Loved ones, employees, or customers. At the same time it comes with certain responsabilities such as completing monthly inspections of the HeartStart ref m5070A battery and the M5071A defibrillator pad. Monthy inspections should be documented and expiration dates should be checked to assure all the consumables are in good working order.

What battery fits my HeartStart AED?

There are a couple different choices of batteries for your HeartStart AED pending on which model that you have. The Philips OnSite and Heartstart FRX Model are probably the most popular AEDS on the Market. Both the HeartStart FRx and the Philips OnSite use the HeartStart ref m5070a for their powers sources whereas the Philips Fr2 and Fr+ use the HeartStart M3863A battery.

The Batteries

The M5070A battery  is a disposable, lithium manganese dioxide, long-life battery capable of delivering 300 shocks unlike the competitor’s non genuine Philips HeartStart ref M5070A battery. The HeartStart ref M5070A has a five-year shelf life plus a (typical) four-year installed life giving you up to nine years of service.

The Philips Heartstart M3863A battery is designed for the  Philips HeartStart FR2-series defibrillators. The M3863A defibrillator battery is a disposable lithium manganese dioxide battery, which has a shelf life of five years, plus typical standby life of five years (four years minimum).

Buy A Genuine Philips Heartstart Battery

There are many retailers on the internet and big brand stores that claim to have the lowest prices but the fact is that if your Heartstart ref m5070a is not a genuine Philips battery it will not have the same quality checks and meet the same stringent specifications that only a genuine Philips battery will have. Some of the major differences between a Genuine M5070A battery and a generic ref m5070a battery are the warranty length, a 4 yr Philips warranty compared to a 1 year warranty from someone you have never heard of. Another big difference is the amount of shocks the Philips M5070A  battery can deliver, 300 compared to the competitors 200.

In closing don’t settle for less because your life or a loved one’s is depending on you choosing the right battery.

How Important Is The M5071A Defibrillator Pad?

March 16, 2014

m5071a Smart Pads and Defibrillator

It is estimated each year in the United States alone; approximately 350,000 people suffer from sudden cardiac arrest otherwise known as (SCA). Less than 5% of them survive. SCA is most often caused by an irregular heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation (VF).  VF refers to a condition that can develop when the working cells of the heart stop responding to the electrical system in the heart and start contracting randomly on their own. When this occurs, the heart becomes a quivering mass of muscle and loses its ability to pump blood efficiently through the body. The heart ultimately stops, and the person will lose consciousness and stop breathing within seconds. If defibrillation with an aed is not performed to return the heart to a normal pumping rhythm, the victim will die in just a matter of minutes. The victim of SCA does not usually survive because of the time it takes EMS to arrive and deliver a shock with and AED. Studies have shown that for every minute of SCA without cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the delivery of a shock by a defibrillator the chances of survival decrease by 7% to 10%. In the past only EMS were allowed to use a defibrillator because most defibrillators were manual and did not automatically diagnose whether a shock was needed and what was the appropriate dose of energy.

In the early 70s the victim had to be transported to a hospital before the initial shock could be delivered. Over the years programs were developed in large communities to act as an extension of the hospital emergency room. EMS professionals went through training to learn how to treat SCA. In 1990 fewer than half of the ambulances in the United States carried a defibrillator, so the chance of surviving SCA outside the hospital or in small communities was still very small. Since then nearly every ambulance carries an aed machine and the development of the automated external defibrillators (AEDS) made it possible for the first responders, business owners, or even family members at the scene to treat SCA with the easy to use AEDS.  What this means is that with more rapid deployment of a portable defibrillator and CPR nearly 40,000 more lives could be saved each year.

Defibrillators are very easy to use and the progress over the years had made them a staple in nearly every school and business. There are a few crucial items to a HeartStart AED; The M5070A HeartStart battery which powers the aed to deliver the shock of up to 150 joules for adults and 50 joules for children. The M5071A defibrillation Pads are also a critical item, the M5071A is an adhesive pad that is applied to the patient’s chest and bottom left side of the abdomen. Once applied the aed will diagnose the heart rhythm and then discharge an electrical shock through the two M5071A defibrillator pads.

In closing defibrillators have come a long way in 40 years but your aed is only as good the battery and defibrillator pads, that’s why it is critical to inspect your machine on a monthly basis and replace the expired M5071A pads and M5070A battery.

AEDs, m5071a Pads, and m5070a Batteries – Life Saving Devices

March 15, 2014

m5071a Smart Pads by Philips Images

It’s not usually something business owners think about, but what would you do if an employee suffered a critical health event? I know what you’re thinking: running a business is difficult enough without having to consider a “what if” situation like this. Unfortunately, the frequency of fatal health events necessitates our preparation for these seemingly highly unlikely events.

According to an OSHA report, 1216 people died at work from heart attack, 354 from electric shock, and 267 from asphyxia in 2001 and 2002. The report mentions that as many as 6 out of 10 of these deaths could have been avoided simply by immediate access to Automated External Defibrillators, or AEDs. Every minute that passes before defibrillation decreases one’s chance of survival by 10%. Having a properly working AED (more importantly, a working AED battery such as the popular m5070a, and some m5071 pads) available in the workplace can literally be the difference between life and death.

So should your business invest in an AED? That could depend on the type of business. Employees who work varying shifts, who have higher-than-average stress levels, and who are exposed to certain chemical and electrical hazards are at a greater risk of sudden cardiac arrest. However, regardless of the type of business you operate, the fact remains that 10,000 deaths occur each year at the workplace in America. Add to that the fact that waiting for emergency medical personnel to arrive shrinks the likelihood of survival to 6%.

Considering the relatively low cost of AED machines and the batteries that accompany them (which include m5071a, m5070a to name a few), most employers ought to consider them a necessary part of company first aid. A story from the American Heart Association demonstrates this fact. A forty-one year old air conditioner manufacturing worker suffered acute cardiac arrest at work. After receiving 3 shocks, the man was revived in under 4 minutes.

According to OSHA, employees can be trained (with little investment) to learn the signs of cardiac arrest, to perform CPR, to provide defibrillation via AED, and care for patients until medical professionals arrive. Training for these units is recommended by the International Liason Committee on Resuscitation because it “improves performance (e.g., speed of use, correct pad placement). . .” Nowadays, training one’s employees can very easily be accomplished through lookalike machines known as AED trainers. These machines operate in almost exactly the same manner as a standard AED unit aside from a couple differences. The obvious difference is that AED trainers do not discharge electricity. The other difference is that these types of units operate using typical AA or D cell batteries rather than the larger and more costly batteries required by standard AED units. Research by the ACOEM indicates that volunteers with CPR and AED training saved twice as many victims as CPR training alone!

The sad truth is that potentially fatal cardiac arrests at work occur at a rate of nearly per day in America. The frequency of these events and the ease with which employers can prepare for them makes it clear that AEDs in the workplace are becoming a modern necessity. And make sure to check those m5071a pads and batteries by Philips while you’re at it!

What Is A HeartStart AED Trainer?

March 10, 2014

861306 Philips HeartStart FRX AED Trainer

One of the most trusted names in the medical world Philips Healthcare has been producing innovative products for over a century. Philips has made huge advancements in the AED market with one being the AED trainer or Automated External Defibrillator Trainer. Philips has developed one of the best AED trainers in the market cleverly named the HeartStart trainer which is small portable device used to simulate a real life sudden cardiac arrest scenario where students use the trainer to deliver a lifesaving shock.

Cardiac arrest is a serious medical condition where the victim’s heart no longer beats in a normal rhythm and causing the victim to stop breathing and per fusing blood to vital organs in essence causing death. The only way to combat SCA is through continued cpr and an electrical shock by a defibrillator stopping the heart and restarting it into a normal rhythm. Providing CPR and delivering a shock from a portable defibrillator increases your chance of survival by nearly 80% if performed in the first few minutes of SCA onset.

According to studies performed by the American Heart Association approximately 383,000 cardiac arrest incidents occur on an annual basis and 88% of it happens at home where most people do not have access to a defibrillator. Studies have also shown that nearly 40% more SCA victims could be saved if a defibrillator would have been used.

The Philips AED trainer is built with an audible step by step guide making it possible for nearly anyone to deliver a lifesaving shock no matter your training level. The HeartStart AED detects the victim’s heart rhythm and will deliver a shock if need or inform the person to continue cpr. The AED will not deliver a shock to a person with a normal heart rhythm or a flat line rhythm as there is no rhythm. The HeartStart FRX trainer will only deliver a shock to victims with fibrillation. Fibrillation is an uncontrolled movement of the hearts muscles kind of like a bow full of jelly instead of what you think of the normal heart beat which is in sync.

The HeartStart Trainer is vastly used by CPR Instructors, Schools, and businesses to educate their personnel to effectively manage and respond to a Cardiac Emergency.

Your New HeartStart AED trainer will come with an easy set up guide, a set of training pads, and a carrying case. The Trainer varies slightly from the Live defibrillator such as it use of 4 AA batteries instead of the normal M5070A HeartStart battery and that the trainer cannot deliver a shock as it is intended for training use only.

When you decide to purchase your HeartStart FRX Trainer from AED LAND you have taken the next step to protecting the ones you love or fellow employees for years to come.

Power Up Life Saving Tools with the M5070A and M3863A

March 5, 2014

m3863a heartstart aed battery

Lithium ion batteries play an important role in the world as power sources for many consumer electronics devices being used today. With features such as lightweight and high-energy density, these cells will continue to drive portable devices, power tools, electric devices, and other electronic hardware for the next years to come.  Philips, a company known for creating rechargeable batteries both for low power and high voltage applications, has provided the world with reliable power supplies from different sizes and values, including its series of AED defibrillators.

With Automated External Defibrillators being used almost everywhere for cardiac arrest first aids, it’s easy to question the reliability of the machine, knowing that AED defibrillators are stored for long periods of time before they are used. The battery should have a shelf life long enough for the defibrillator to function properly even if stored for two years or more. Philips is able to overcome this obstacle with its latest release – M5070A battery and the M3863A.

In terms of shelf life, Philips has greatly trumped the problem of natural wearing-out and leaking that is present in Lithium-ion batteries. Today’s Lithium –ion batteries have a problem of self-discharging even if it is not connected and delivering current. In other words, a spare battery won’t last much longer than the one being used. Even large companies like Apple, Sony, and Dell have cases of product recalls due to defects found on their Lithium Batteries. Luckily, the M5070A and M3863A batteries are designed to oppose such trends.

The M5070A and M3863A are armed with a shelf life of 5 to 10 years and a typical 4-year installed life. What is more, the M5070A and M3863A includes a 4-year warranty from Philips, making it an even worthy investment. This device is also compatible with several models of AED defibrillators including M5066A, M5067A, M5068A, and 861304.

In terms of weight, the HeartStart ref m5070a and M3863A are extremely lightweight, only 1 pound per battery. This dry cell uses a disposable material called Lithium Manganese Dioxide, a material known for its durability and cost. With a voltage output of 9 volts and a capacity of 4.2 Ah, the M5070A and M3863A can deliver a 200+ shock capacity, more than enough to provide for the heartstart pads to operate. Another thing to consider with this cell is the power it can provide to its load. Watt-hour is the total power a power source can supply multiplied by the number of hours it operates. The M5070A and M3863A watt-hour rating is seen to be at 38 Watt-hours, enough to supply the defibrillator with power at a long period of time.

Overall, the M5070A heartstart battery and the M3863A is a battery that can be well trusted when it comes to biomedical applications such as the AED defibrillators. Its long life is particularly needed in times where every minute counts and people would want their device to work even though it remained unused for years.

One must keep in mind, however, that the M5070A and the M3863A heartstart battery uses a disposable material for storing electricity. Therefore, charging is not possible for this device. Once the battery has reached its expiration, immediately remove the battery from the defibrillator. Another thing to consider is the storage temperature as it is always appropriate to store a dry cell in a cool dry place. Furthermore, keeping backups is still the best strategy.

The Philips defibrillator features 8 real-world training scripts that can greatly help first aid practitioners. Also, the 989803139261 AED pads come in plastic cases when bought separately. Once the pads wear out, there’s no need to buy a new case.

Overall, Automated External Defibrillators are extremely important devices used as a first line of defense against sudden cardiac arrest. People, laypersons and health personnel alike, should learn about the basics of this device. The 989803139261 AED pads are effective in such operations. The AED pads, together with the other tools arevery helpful in educating people about the importance of AEDs.
